Recently, Non-Stop Dogwear has updated their portfolio of available dog jackets. Therefore, we have decided to update this Shopping guide and explain the individual models of dog coats by Non-stop dogwear. Continue reading for more tips and understanding of their sizing.
Choosing the right size
The most important thing when choosing the size is that the coat doesn’t disturb dog’s natural movement and dog feels comfortable in the coat. When choosing a coat for active outdoor use, it is important to choose the size that fits really well. For slower activities and waiting in place, the coat can be a bit bigger. Do not guess the right size based on a different model of jacket that you might already have at home!
Measuring your dog
When measuring, your dog needs to be in standing position, back bone as straight as possible. Measurements are taken firmly from the dog. Measure back length from neck to base of the tail. The starting point in the neck is in the confluence of neck and back columns. Do not measure any part fo the neck!
CAUTION
Sizes of the coats printed on the packaging DO NOT correspond to the measured back length of the dog. If your dog is between 2 sizes, we recommend to choose the larger size.
Example
You measured back length on your dog of 50 cm.
For Glacier Jackets – In theory, size 50 or 55 should be suitable for your dog. We recommend choosing the larger size, in this case 55. You can always adjust the length of the coat a little by tightening the adjustment point on the neck/shoulder blades. This way the larger size 55 will cover also the tail area of your dog sufficiently, whereas the size 50 might be too short when the dog puts their head down during sniffing.
The sizing is not the same with the older version of the jackets like Beta Pro or Glacier. So in the end, the same dog would need size 50 for Pro/Beta Pro raincoat and size 55 for Fjord/Glacier 2.0 Jackets and even size 60 for the previous Glacier jackets. Therefore, always check the corresponding Size chart!
How to check for perfect fit?
Jacket does not restrict your dogs movement
It covers all important muscles of the back, hip joints and thigh muscles as well as shoulder joints and corresponding muscles. This should be the case also when the dog lowers their head when sniffing – the tail base area and hips of the dogs should not get exposed.
The buckle part is located on the side – no pressure point on the back.
Non-Stop Dogwear has available several different types of coats. Choose the coat according to the activity and type of your dog.
RAINCOATS
If you are looking for a thin raincoat to protect your dog from rain & wind, FjordRaincoat is the most suitable. It has 15.000 mm water column and DO NOT include any insulation. As it does not offer any additional warmth, it is perfectly suitable also for breeds with undercoat, e.g. border collie, Australian Shepherd, etc.
This raincoat has similar function to Sade Pomppa. They are a good fit for dogs, who are in between sizes for Pomppa coats. However, keep in mind, that for an active dog, you need to put on the leg loops to hold the coat in the place.
What is the difference between Pro Raincoat / Beta Pro Raincoat & the new Fjord Raincoat?
Pro/Beta Pro are previous versions of the Fjord coat. Beta Pro is equipped with rubberized mesh under belly which does not absorb any moisture. This is a big advantage for small breeds who have the belly parts of coats often soaked with water splashing from the ground during rainy weather. The new Fjord coats have drainage holes on the chest strap to fulfil this function. It also offers more adjusting possibilities with elastic rubber bands on the collar and at the back near the tail.
WINDSTOPER JACKET
Blest Jacket is an insulated wind resistant coat suitable for active dogs. It has 8.000 mm water column and has a Primaloft insulation layer to keep the dog warm. It is a very lightweight jacket designed to be used during activity.
This coat is suitable to be used during run in cold weather. You can use it as winter coat for dogs with undercoat, however it is not sufficient for a dog without undercoat to keep them warm for example during waiting in a car during agility training. It is similar to Perus Pomppa. It is wind resistant, but NOT completely waterproof during rain. It fits mostly for dog breeds with back length 45 cm and longer.
WINTER COATS
Non-Stop Dogwear has currently 2 different types of winter coats. Both coats have a leash and harness opening. Adjustable rubber bands in the neck & tail area enable perfect fit of the coat to different dog breeds.
The Glacier Jacket is in principle updated Alpha Pro Jacket, which is discontinued by Non-stop Dogwear. It is water-resistant and has a rubberized mesh under belly which does not absorb any moisture. This jacket is now replaced by Glacier Jacket 2.0.
The Glacier Wool Jacket has identical fit as Glacier Jacket, but it is a thicker coat. The additional wool lining will keep dogs warm even in the most challenging weather circumstances. It is comparable with the previous model of Pro Warm Jacket (discontinued). This jacket is now replaced by Glacier Wool Jacket 2.0.
What is new in the Glacier 2.0 & Glacier Wool 2.0?
Both models have been updated with drainage holes and lining on the chest strap which replace the rubberised mesh in the previous Glacier version. The panels & the sizing has been updated as well – finally all coats (Fjord, Glacier 2.0 & Glacier Wool 2.0) have unified sizing chart! Caution: they are larger than the same size from the previous Glacier model. Measure your dog and check the new sizing chart to order correct size!
Should I choose Glacier or Glacier Wool Jacket for my dog?
The difference between these 2 coats is very similar as in Perus Pomppa vs. Toppa Pomppa. Glacier 2.0 is a great winter coat for dogs with undercoat, Glacier Wool 2.0 Jacket is perfect for short-haired breeds without undercoat. Both are great fit for dogs, who are in between sizes in Pomppa coats. Thanks to several additional adjusting options on collar and at the back, these coats are great fit for thin dogs with long back and deeper chest as well as dogs with „non-standard“ body size. Thanks to their lightweight, they are perfect winter coats also for very small dog breeds. The wool lining does not get cold even when wet – the chest & belly strap do not cool the small dog in heavy snow or rainy conditions.
However, keep in mind, that for an active dog, you need to put on the leg loops to hold the coat in the place.
Long Distance Jacket is a very thick coat designed to keep the dog warm in the most extreme temperatures up to -50 degrees. It has a similar fit like Blest jacket & it fits mostly for dog breeds with back length 45 cm and longer. However, this jacket has the lowest waterproof rating of all coats from Non-Stop Dogwear.
Product Care
The outer fabric of all coats is waterproof and windproof. All coats can be washed in a 30 degree. Do not bleach. Do not dry clean. Do not iron. Do not tumble dry.
