With the beginning of the snowy & cold season, we decided to give you some additional help when choosing the right Pomppa winter coat for your dog.
Currently during Lockdown there are as good as zero options to try the coat on your dog, so here is a shopping guide to help you choose the right size and type of Pomppa winter coat for your dog when ordering online.
The most important thing when choosing the size is that the coat doesn’t disturb dog’s natural movement and dog feels comfortable in the coat. When choosing a coat for active outdoor use, it is important to choose the size that fits well on the waist. For slower activities and waiting in place, the coat can be a bit bigger.
Pomppa has available 2 different types of coats. Choose the coat according to the activity and type of your dog. Watch the video guide below for useful tips & tricks on how to choose the right coat or size for your dog (for English, turn on the subtitles).

Is Perus Pomppa or Toppa Pomppa the best choice for my dog?
Dogs with undercoat like e.g. border collies usually do not need a coat for running in cold weather or snow. However, in many cases it makes sense to keep them dry & warm – perfect job for Perus Pomppa:
During a warm-up & cool-down for dog sports in a non-heated training facility. Having a dog waiting in a cold environment during breaks in training is guarantee for muscle spasms, etc. You want to keep their muscles warm for a longer period of time and cool-down gradually.
For longer outdoor walks in the snow & freezing temperatures, where your dog is mostly on the leash it helps to keep them warm, if they do not get to be active enough to warm through movement.
On the other hand, dogs with no undercoat and less body fat need a thicker coat to keep them dry & warm during winter days. For them Toppa Pomppa is the perfect choice. Perus Pomppa is optimal to use on colder days in spring & the autumn when the temperatures are not below 5°C.
Is your dog between 2 sizes?
Sometimes, if a dog is between 2 sizes, it helps to switch the model. Keep in mind, that Toppa Pomppa is approximately 2 cm longer than Perus Pomppa of the same size! If you are looking for a Toppa Pomppa, but e.g. size 52 is too long for your dog, try Perus Pomppa in size 52. If it fits, you can always combine it with Jumppa Pomppa for extra warm on very cold days.
Small dog breeds
Perus Pomppa works also as ideal winter coat for small dog breeds. In combination with Jumppa Pomppa it keeps them warm even on the coldest winter days. Often Toppa Pomppa is “too much coat” for a small dog.
Measuring your dog
When measuring, your dog needs to be in standing position, back bone as straight as possible. Measurements are taken firmly from the dog. If a dog has thick fur, it should be considered by leaving a bit of space in measurements.
BACK – Measure back length from neck to base of the tail. The starting point in the neck is in the confluence of neck and back columns.
NECK – The circumference of the neck is measured from the same point as the beginning of the back measurement. This dimension is only used for JumppaPomppa.
CHEST – The circumference of the chest is measured at the widest point of the dog’s chest.
WAIST – The circumference of the waist is measured behind the chest from the narrowest point of the dog
